Some Pennsylvanians will soon get extra $300


Thousands of Pennsylvanians will soon begin receiving an extra $300 per week in unemployment payments.The Department of Labor and Industry announced Friday that about 127,000 claimants in the Unemployment Compensation and Extended Benefits programs will get the $300 boost as early as Tuesday.The money comes from an extension of the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation program. The extension was part of the federal COVID-19 relief package passed last month.The additional benefits will be added automatically.Meanwhile, state officials said they are still waiting for guidance from the federal government on the Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation and Pandemic Unemployment Assistance programs, which were extended through the federal government’s stimulus package.PUA and PEUC claimants are currently unable to file for weeks after Dec. 26. Before payments can resume, state officials said, they need information from the U.S. Department of Labor in order to make required changes.No timeline has been provided by the federal Labor Department about when guidance will be finalized.When payments resume, the state plans to backdate eligible PUA and PEUC claims to the week of Jan. 2 and add on the $300 supplement for those weeks.
