Opinion | Twitter was right to ban Mr. Trump


Former president Donald Trump’s Jan. 20 departure gave millions of Americans hope and overwhelming relief. Four years of Mr. Trump’s cruelty, mendacity, narcissism and vicious fight to overturn our democracy became history, at last.

Or did they? The final paragraph of the Jan. 25 editorial “Why now, Twitter?” seemed to have forgotten the domestic terrorism in our Capitol on Jan. 6 and Mr. Trump’s empowerment of it. Somehow, one of our most respected newspapers hints that someday, “when the risk is judged lower,” Mr. Trump should be able to read a few nicely scripted words sweetly before a camera and get his social media privileges back, perhaps regaining the adulation of cultists ready to attack their country at his bidding.
