MARKET LIVE: Sensex atop 56,700; Nifty holds 16,850; RIL, financials
LIVE market updates: Indian equities scaled new record peaks on Monday as Jerome Powell’s speech last Friday suggested interest rate hike in the US could be later than previously thought.
The frontline S&P BSE Sensex hit a new high of 56,734 while the Nifty50 touched 16,881 levels. Both the indices later scaled down to 56,712 and 16,878 levels, up 587 points and 173 points, respectively.
In the broader markets, the BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices gained 1 per cent each. Sectorally, the Nifty Metal index advanced 2 per cent, followed by the Nifty Realty index, up 1.6 per cent.
