Tom Bergeron says he was fired from DWTS after disagreements over

Tom Bergeron claims he was fired from Dancing With The Stars after behind-the-scenes arguments over casting political figures.

‘In all candor, the show that I left was not the show that I loved,’ Tom told Bob Saget during an appearance on Bob’s Saget’s Here For You podcast.

He explained that the conflict was about casting ‘political people’ on the dancing competition, appearing to confirm word he and his bosses bucked heads over Donald Trump‘s Press Secretary Sean Spicer’s casting in 2019.

Fans of the hit ABC reality competition were shocked when Bergeron left the show after its 28th season, which aired from September to November 2019.

Tom had hosted the show since its debut in 2005.

‘So, the end of the season that turned out to be my last season, I kind of knew,’ he continued.

‘So I took everything out of my dressing room that I really wanted,’ Tom added. ‘It was kind of obvious that we were kind of butting heads.’

The Massachusetts native explained that he ‘kind of locked arms’ with co-host Erin Andrews and said he was proud that they were able to maintain their connection with the viewers and keep it ‘uplifting and fun’.

Bergeron went on to say that he believed that people who watched videos of the show from the 28th season would not notice a difference. Andrews, 43, was also let go from the show ahead of its 29th season.

‘I wasn’t surprised that, that was my last season,’ he told Saget.

‘So there was no blue period. Actually, I think Erin and I had more fun getting fired than anyone.’

Since Bergeron left the show, many have speculated that his abrupt ousting was due to disagreements that he had with producers over the casting of White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer.

Tom appeared to confirm the rumors, telling Bob, ‘There were personnel changes behind the scenes and those people and I didn’t see eye to eye about how best to present the show particularly when we were at a point where it was only on once a year.’

The Hollywood Squares host said that he was asked for his input on the upcoming season during a summer meeting in 2019.

‘We were on the cusp of an election year as well, so I said that the only thing that I would say is, let’s play to our strength. Let’s be an oasis for two hours every week from all of the nonsense and the divisiveness going on right now.’
