Woman charged with vehicular homicide in Butler bicyclist death –

BUTLER. Pa. — A Butler woman is facing vehicular homicide and related charges after a fatal bicycle crash that happened in the City of Butler in September.

Susan Ekstrand, 27, was also charged with involuntary manslaughter and traffic charges after the death of 76-year-old Dr. Henry Sinopoli in downtown Butler on Sept. 8.

According to our news partners at Butler Radio, police said video from a nearby business showed Ekstrand putting on the brakes of her SUV at the intersection of West Brady and North Washington, but the SUV did not come to a complete stop.

Police also said that at the same time, Sinopoli entered the intersection on his bicycle riding in the wrong direction on North Washington, which is a one-way street.

Ekstrand admitted to eating a piece of food while traveling through the intersection, when she hit Sinopoli. Police said that Ekstrand stayed on the scene to cooperate with police.
