Biden calls in to Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade: ‘America’s back’

“My message is after two years, you’re back, America’s back,” Biden said. “There’s nothing we’re unable to overcome, Al, and you’re one of the reasons for that, pal. You’re always up. You’re always rooting.”

 

The parade comes almost two years since the start of the pandemic in the U.S., as major events and gatherings were mostly canceled in 2020 due to the coronavirus. 

While the parade was held last year, traditional features such as marching bands and crowds weren’t part of it. 

The Bidens also stopped to meet with service members at the United States Coast Guard Station Brant Point on Nantucket, Mass., where they are spending Thanksgiving with the rest of the first family. 

The president and first lady talked to members of all six branches of the military, with Biden handing them challenge coins, according to a pool report. 

Jill Biden told the members the two would be at the Christmas tree lighting ceremony on Nantucket on Friday.

As they walked away, Joe Biden stopped to answer a question about what he was thankful for. 

“I’m not joking when I say I’m thankful for these guys,” the president said of the service members.
