Kanye West Says He ‘Embarrassed’ Kim Kardashian With Presidential Run

Kanye West as shared that he “embarrassed” his estranged wife, Kim Kardashian with his failed run for U.S. president last year.

The rapper and designer announced his bid for the White House on the Fourth of July, 2020—revealing that he was running as an Independent under the “Birthday Party”—after publicly expressing his support for then-President Donald Trump.

And in an Instagram post titled “Thanksgiving Prayer,” West—who recently changed his name to Ye—spoke candidly about a number of missteps he has made in his life, listing his ill-fated foray into politics as one of them.

Referring to the Trump-supporting “Make America Great Again” cap he took to wearing, West said in the video post, which he shared on Thursday: “Good lord, my wife did not like me wearing the red hat.

“Being a good wife, she just wanted to protect me and our family. I made me and our family a target by not aligning with Hollywood’s political stance, and that was hard for our marriage.

“Then I ran for president without proper preparation and no allies on either side. I embarrassed my wife in the way that I presented information about our family during the one and—thank God—only press conference. All my dad had to say afterwards was, ‘Write you speech next time, son.'”

West’s presidential campaign hit a stumbling block the same month that he announced his plans to run, when he held a disastrous press conference, during which he told how he and Kardashian had discussed aborting their first child.

Days later, Kardashian publicly addressed her husband’s mental health issues for the first time, as she wrote in an Instagram post: “As many of you know, Kanye has bi-polar disorder. Anyone who has this or has a loved one in their life who does, knows how incredibly complicated and painful it is to understand.

“I’ve never spoken publicly about how this has affected us at home because I am very protective of our children and Kanye’s right to privacy when it comes to his health. But today, I feel like I should comment on it because of the stigma and misconceptions about mental health.”

Kardashian, who shares four children—North, 8, Saint, 5, Chicago, 3, and Psalm, 2—with West, would divorce from the star seven months later, in February, ahead of their seven-year wedding anniversary.

Elsewhere in his Thanksgiving post, West—who has spoken publicly about his hope to reunite with Kardashian—opened up about taking accountability for his past actions.

“All I think about every day is how I get my family back together and how I heal the pain that I’ve caused,” he said, as a children’s choir sang in the clip. “I take accountability for my actions… The one thing that all my successes and failures have in common is me.”

He then went on to discuss his relationship with alcohol,…
