Laura Ingraham ‘not saying’ if she’d support Trump in 2024

Fox News host Laura Ingraham is not committing to supporting former President Trump if he runs for reelection in 2024.

“I’m not saying I’m there for him yet,” Ingraham told Northern Virginia Magazine, when asked if she’ll support Trump in the next presidential election, should he run. “But I think whether he runs or not – I mean, his policies worked. Trump’s blueprint for policy – a forward-looking, optimistic set of pro-America policies – that blueprint, without a doubt, is winning.”

The former president has not announced his future political plans but has been endorsing candidates for Congress over the last year and hinting at another run at the White House for months.

Public polling shows that the vast majority of Republicans would support Trump and many wish to see him run for president again.

Ingraham’s relationship with Trump, as well as those of several of her Fox News colleagues, has come under increased scrutiny in recent weeks following revelations from the congressional committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Ingraham was one of several high-profile Fox personalities who reportedly texted with then-White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows on the day of the insurrection, pleading with him to get Trump to do something to get his supporters to stop attacking Congress.

Trump, Ingraham reportedly texted Meadows that day, needed “to tell people in the Capitol to go home,” saying, “This is hurting all of us. He is destroying his legacy.”

On her primetime show after her text messages to Meadows were revealed by the committee, Ingraham condemned the violence that broke out at the Capitol but did not blame Trump directly for inciting the mob. Democrats impeached Trump for inciting insurrection against the government. He was not convicted by the Senate.

“Both publicly and privately I said what I believe: that the Jan. 6 breach at the Capitol was a terrible thing. Crimes were committed,” Ingraham said on her show last month. “Some people were unfairly hounded and persecuted, but it was not an insurrection. To say anything different is beyond dishonest and it ignores the facts of that day.”

Trump, who during his final months in office soured on Fox and its leadership, has since found a friendlier media environment on smaller conservative cable channels like One America News and Newsmax, which have broadcast his unfounded claims of voter fraud and and given credence to his assertion that the election was “rigged.”

At a rally in Arizona over the weekend, which Fox did not carry live, Trump again repeated false claims about the election’s result.

“A lot of conservatives were feeling a year ago, you know, completely dejected,” Ingraham told the magazine of Trump’s loss in 2020. “I kept saying, ‘I’ve been around for 30 years, doing this in one form or another. There’s always another election, so don’t get too dragged down by the results of one.”
