‘Ridiculous Right’ will sink Republicans’ 2024 hopes

The weight of absurdity coming from the far right is sinking the Republican Party. It is hard to even recognize the party these days. It seems to have lost not only its soul, but apparently its mind as well.

Exhibit A: Ivermectin. For the love of God, a substantial number of conservatives won’t take an FDA-approved COVID-19 vaccine, a vaccine championed by Donald Trump, but they will rush out to the co-op and buy cattle de-wormer and consume it without a prescription. There is a prescribed use for Ivermectin to treat parasitic bowel infections in humans, but only with a doctor’s guidance and there is a topical cream designed to treat lice, but none of this has been approved to treat COVID in humans or animals.

I hoped after Trump was defeated that this part of the conservative party, which I will now dub the ridiculous right, would become dormant. But no, the talk show criers are popping Ivermectin on their shows and telling you this will defeat COVID. These same nut cases are also telling you the FDA-approved vaccine will kill you. Really, if you listen to those loons you might actually end up killing yourself.

This is such obvious nonsense it would not have warranted a mention in the pre-Trump Republican Party, but he seems to have injected the party with an insanity-inducing drug. It was this same crowd that was willing to ingest household chemicals to fight COVID after Trump made a comment about it during one of his press conferences. It was also this same group of radicals who, at Trump’s urging, invaded the halls of Congress to “arrest” congressmen and congresswomen in an attempt to overthrow the presidential election.

This past week in Arizona, two members of the ridiculous right, upset over a child being asked to quarantine after a close exposure to a person with COVID, showed up at the school with zip ties fashioned to make handcuffs. They threatened to perform a citizen’s arrest of the principal. Apparently, they were following the lead of those fine members of the ridiculous right who attempted last year to “arrest” the governor of Michigan.

Then there is the governor of Florida who is trying to stop school districts from instituting mask mandates for their students in an effort to help slow the spread of COVID-19 among kids. Now think about this for just a moment. This governor is, in effect, saying he values his politics more than he values the health and safety of the students and teachers in the state’s school system. The delta variant has been particularly aggressive in children, something earlier manifestations of COVID-19 had not been.

Oh, and let’s not forget our neighbor over in Georgia, Marjorie Taylor Greene, who apparently has lost her mind. She has spread so much disinformation – that’s just a kinder word for lying – she has been banned from social media platforms. She also lost her committee assignments in Congress and at one point faced a potential censure, a move that was ultimately dropped.

I…
